Service-Learning Research
Need research to see the positive effects of engaging your students in service-learning? Get your own copy of The Impacts of Service-Learning on Youth, Schools and Communities: Research on K-12 School-Based Service-Learning, 1990–1999 at www.learningindeed.org/research/slresearch. The Clearinghouse is also a great source for research.

Getting Assistance
Want to talk to a live person who knows all about service-learning? The Learn and Serve America Exchange can hook you up with a contact or peer mentor in your state or a nearby state.

Finding Funds to Support Service-Learning
The Corporation for National Service (CNS) gives out grants for service-learning via your state education agency. Find your state’s CNS profile. The Constitutional Rights Foundation offers annual Maurice G. Robinson Awards for school-based service-learning projects. And, don’t overlook other sources of education funding to support your service-learning curriculum. Check out SchoolGrants website for more ideas.

Network With Peers
For a list of listservs, check out The National Service Resource Center. Join the popular K-12 service-learning listserv while you are there! District and State Education Leaders network through the Compact for Learning and Citzenship and SEANet.

Service-Learning In Action
The five Learning In Deed Practice and Policy Demonstration States offer great examples of class projects, whole schools and statewide service-learning initiatives. Visit Maryland for some more great projects in action. Other states have websites with project examples as well, check out Wisconsin’s site for a good list.

Resources and Curriculum
Check out the Learning In Deed's K-12 Service-Learning Curriculum on the Net. The Compact for Learning and Citizenship also offers great resources on service-learning issues and promising practices including a newly released Service-Learning and Standards Toolkit. Many service-learning resources are available the old-fashioned way (i.e. through the mail!). Start with the Clearinghouse's database of resource guides, “how to” materials, planning materials, and videos.
